UN Cancels Polio Vaccinations In Gaza Due To Airstrike Damage

United Nations in New York City.

The United Nations has announced the cancellation of polio vaccinations that were scheduled to take place at a UN school in Gaza. This decision comes after the school sustained severe damage from an airstrike, as confirmed by UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini on Monday.

Lazzarini expressed regret over the situation, stating that the school was intended to be used for the polio vaccination campaign, which was set to begin on the same day. However, due to the extent of the damage caused by the airstrike, the vaccination campaign had to be called off at that location.

Reports from Gaza's Al Awda and Al Aqsa hospitals revealed that at least 22 individuals lost their lives in Israeli strikes targeting the Al Mufti school in Gaza's Nuseirat refugee camp. Additionally, more than 5,000 displaced individuals were seeking shelter at the school, according to Gaza's civil defense.

Lazzarini emphasized the dire situation in Gaza, referring to it as a 'never-ending hell.' He urged for an end to the cycle of violence and destruction, emphasizing that the current circumstances should not be accepted as the new norm.
