Guns and swords are one of the four types of gear you'll use in Vox Seas to fight. Unlike fruits and fighting styles, you can keep your unused guns and swords in your inventory and change them at any time, allowing for a lot more versatility in your gameplay. Additionally, they are often much better and easier to get compared to the fruits/fighting styles of the same price/rarity.
