Ulster Bank confirms redundancy plans for 600 staff

Ulster Bank has announced its first two redundancy packages for staff ahead of its withdrawal from Ireland.

The banking giant is scaling down its presence in Ireland ahead of its planned exit next year. The process of freezing customer accounts has already began, while some Ulster Bank branches are preparing to reopen as Permanent TSBs in the New Year. Further schemes expected across 2023 and 2024.

The first redundancy package will target Ulster Bank staff that are not transferring to Permanent TSB branches, while the second volunteer led programme will offer redundancy to eligible workers as operations scale back. Both schemes open today, with employees having until November 30 to submit an application.
