Ukrainian 'Thank you Ireland' festival to take place with live music, food, and games

A Ukrainian 'Thank you Ireland' festival will take place in Dublin this month with live music, food, and games.

The festival is taking place in Howth on Saturday, September 17 and will feature live music from both Irish and Ukrainian artists, Ukrainian food, games for children and plenty of more family fun and cultural experiences.

The event will feature the stars of the 'Good evening, We Are From Ukraine' project, a group of Ukrainian performers travelling the world.

Kicking off at 12pm, the festival aims to forge new friendships, foster connections between people from Ukraine and Ireland, help Ukrainians integrate and offer a dose of escapism amid the ongoing war in the country.

Money made from ticket sales will go to The Association of Ukrainians in Republic of Ireland (AURI), an Irish registered charity set up to provide support for the educational, cultural, humanitarian and medical needs of Ukrainians living in the Republic of Ireland and abroad.

AURI is currently active in raising funds for Ukrainian victims of the Russian invasion, including those still in Ukraine and those who were forced to relocate to Ireland.

On September 17, both Ukrainian and Irish families are invited to the event at Howth Castle to enjoy things like art installations, craft workshops, cinema and authentic Ukrainian dishes such as borch, dumplings and other hits of Ukrainian cuisine.

Additionally, there will be clowns, magicians, a parade of talents from Ukrainian children temporarily living in Ireland, a children's football tournament, a mini zoo and dance masterclasses.

On the stage, ticket holders can expect a slew of Ukrainian and Irish musical talent. Irish performers taking to the stage include Eleanor Shanley, John Feeney and Maria Butterly.

One of the event's organisers, Art of Coffee owner Ruslan Mocharskyy, explained to Dublin Live that he hopes to see big numbers at the event, and it will be a good way for families to momentarily escape the reality of what's going on in their home country.

He also hopes that it will be a chance for Irish people to get to know Ukrainian culture outside the context of the Russian invasion.

Tickets for the 'Thank you Ireland' Ukrainian Culture Festival at Howth Castle are available to purchase on Eventbrite.

Two other events will be taking place on the weekend for Ukrainians in Ireland, including a concert on the Friday night at Clasach in Clontarf and a stand up comedy show on Sunday at Twenty Two Nightclub.
