Ukrainian priest explains why donating clothes is not the best way to help those suffering

A Ukrainian priest has spoken out about how the people of Liverpool can help those suffering in the Russian invasion of his country.

Donations came flooding in earlier this month right across the city region after an urgent appeal was launched. An urgent request for items was put out by Polskie Merseyside for those fleeing the war in Ukraine with nothing and many others quickly jumped on board.

But Dr Taras Khomych, a priest at Liverpool's Ukrainian Catholic Parish and a Senior Lecturer in Theology at Liverpool Hope University, has called for an end to clothes and goods collections, saying the people of Ukraine need something else. Dr Khomych comes from Lviv in the west of Ukraine, where many of his friends and family, including his mother and father, are currently located.
