Ukrainian girl's grandfather saves her from being sent off to Russia

CHERNIVTSI, Ukraine -- The grandfather of a 12-year-old girl orphaned by the war in Ukraine made a daring intervention to stop her being taken to an orphanage in Russia.

The girl, Kira Obedinska, was injured while trying to flee her hometown -- Mariupol in southeastern Ukraine -- and taken to a hospital in Donetsk, an eastern city under the control of Moscow-backed separatists.
