Recent reports from Ukrainian military chief Oleksandr Syrskyi indicate significant advancements in the ongoing conflict with Russia, with Ukrainian forces claiming control of over 40 square kilometers (15 square miles) inside Russia's southwestern Kursk region in the past 24 hours.
Syrskyi stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have continued their operations in the Kursk region, with troops advancing between 1 to 3 kilometers in various directions. This progress has resulted in the capture of 40 square kilometers of territory, bringing the total area under Ukrainian control to approximately 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles).
According to Syrskyi, a total of 74 settlements are now under Ukrainian control, with ongoing battles along the entire front line. Despite the high intensity of hostilities, he reassured that the situation remains under control, and the operation is continuing.
This latest development follows a video call between Syrskyi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the military chief provided updates on the progress of the operation in the Kursk region. Zelensky had previously confirmed the advancement of Ukrainian forces in the area.
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated in recent weeks, with Ukrainian forces making significant territorial gains in the Kursk region. The situation remains fluid, with both sides engaged in intense fighting across the front line.
