Recent reports from Russian officials have revealed that over 140 Ukrainian drones carried out a significant attack on various Russian regions, including the capital city of Moscow and its surrounding areas. This assault marks one of the most extensive Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian soil since the conflict began 2 1/2 years ago.
In the town of Ramenskoye near Moscow, drones struck two multistory residential buildings, resulting in fires that caused significant damage. Tragically, one woman lost her life, and three others sustained injuries as a result of the attack. Emergency services were quick to respond, evacuating five residential buildings near the affected area and managing the debris left by the drones.
The severity of the attack led authorities to temporarily close three airports just outside Moscow - Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. A total of 48 flights had to be redirected to alternate airports, as confirmed by Russia's civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia.
While the city of Moscow itself was not spared, with drone debris falling on the outskirts, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that no injuries were sustained. Air defenses successfully intercepted and brought down more than a dozen drones that were approaching the city.
Russia's Defense Ministry disclosed that a total of 144 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed across nine Russian regions, including areas along the Ukrainian border and deeper within Russian territory. This recent attack follows a similar incident earlier this month, where 158 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over a dozen Russian regions, marking it as one of the most substantial Ukrainian drone offensives since the conflict's inception.
