Ukrainian and American officials have discussed a proposal for an air ceasefire, according to a report, which they plan to offer Russia as part of a new push to revive peace talks.
Kyiv has previously made similar approaches to Russian president Vladimir Putin which have been turned down, but Ukrainian officials believe that pressure on Russia's economy from ongoing Ukrainian drone and missile strikes may soften Putin's stance, a source told Reuters.
The proposal is expected to feature in face-to-face talks between Volodymyr Zelensky and US president Donald Trump in Washington DC on Tuesday.
Zelensky will fly to the US from London after meeting Andy Burnham today, with Britain set to offer Ukraine access to the intellectual property behind its new “Stone Cloak” electronic warfare system.
Meanwhile, local authorities in Kyiv said the Ukrainian capital once again came under ballistic missile attack from Russian early on Sunday, while other regions suffered bombardments later during the day that killed at least six people.

Iran foreign minister Abbas Araqchi said a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel "cannot go unanswered".
Iran said the attack in the Caspian Sea resulted in an explosion that killed one sailor and injured another. Araqchi made the comments in calls with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, Araqchi posted on X.
Lavrov, in a statement posted on the Russian foreign ministry's website, offered condolences in connection with the death of a sailor in the attack.
Lavrov said Araqchi thanked local authorities in the Russian region of Astrakhan, where the vessel started its journey, for helping the crew "and stressed the need to put an end to such adventures by the Kyiv regime".
The statement also said Araqchi informed Lavrov of "continuing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tension in the Middle East".
PM Burnham to offer Ukraine drones protection with signal jammers

Britain will hand over intellectual property behind its new “Stone Cloak” electronic warfare system to Ukraine, enabling the war-hit nation to produce the technology at scale, PM Andy Burnham will announce today.
The tablet-sized device is designed to block Russian detection of any drones it is fitted to.
The Ministry of Defence has already given thousands of the jammers to Ukrainian forces to bolster their drone operations.
Following its deployment in Ukraine, the technology is expected to be incorporated into the UK’s next generation of long-range strike weapons, including Project Brakestop, the Government’s initiative to develop low-cost cruise missiles.

Prime minister Andy Burnham will welcome Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky as his first international visitor today, in a move that underscores London's steadfast support for Ukraine, Burnham's office said.
The two leaders are expected to meet at a naval base, where they will hear how UK-led training programmes are helping strengthen Ukraine's armed forces and deliver results on the battlefield, according to Downing Street.
"Britain stands with Ukraine, shoulder to shoulder, and our support remains unwavering," Burnham said in a statement.
“Russia should be in no doubt of our resolve, and we will not back down until we achieve long-lasting and just peace for Ukraine,” the PM said.
During the visit, Burnham and Zelensky will meet more than 200 Ukrainian military personnel and sailors who have spent the past three weeks in Britain taking part in Exercise Sea Breeze, a maritime security and counter-mine exercise designed to prepare participants for future missions in the Black Sea.

Viktoria Terekhova shipped virtually her entire summer collection of children's clothes last week to the giant warehouse of online retailer Wildberries at Elektrostal, east of Moscow.
Within a couple of days, it was destroyed in a Ukrainian drone strike.
Fashion designer Terekhova says she lost 12,000 items, amounting to about 45% of her company's total inventory, and another 4,000 items in attacks on Wildberries hubs in southern Russia.
Eight Wildberries warehouses accounting for more than 10% of the company's storage capacity have been attacked since July 18 in a wave of strikes against Russia's leading online retail company.

Both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians in the war launched by Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, but thousands of civilians have died.
Russia, for its part, said four people were killed by a Ukrainian drone strike in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Horlivka.
Ukraine's air force said Russian forces had targeted the capital with ballistic missiles, as explosions rocked the city.
In its morning note, the air force said Russia had launched seven `ballistic missiles and 136 drones at Ukraine overnight.
In the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, local authorities said a Russian drone hit a supermarket, killing two people including a 10-year-old child, and wounding three others.
"This is deliberate Russian terror that has no military justification," President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
In the eastern city of Kharkiv, one person was killed and 12 others required medical attention after a daytime drone attack.

“A new drone was shot down this morning, at 10:13, by an F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, over the territorial waters of Romania, in the Sulina–Chilia area,” Dan wrote in a post on X.
The day before, a drone that crossed from Ukraine into Romania was downed in an “unpopulated area” near the border, according to a Facebook post by Dan.

"We do not know how credible these reports are or where they come from. These are newspaper reports and nothing more. Therefore, it is premature to comment on them at this stage," the Interfax news agency quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as sating.
A Ukrainian source told Reuters that Ukrainian and US officials had discussed a proposal for an air ceasefire to present to Russia as part of a new push to revive peace talks aimed at ending the conflict triggered by Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
The source said Ukraine had approached Russian President Vladimir Putin in the past with offers of a ceasefire, which had been turned down.
However, some officials believe that pressure on Russia's economy from ongoing Ukrainian drone and missile strikes may soften Putin's stance.
Peskov said Russia's response to any new peace initiative would depend on whether it aligns with Moscow's interests.
"We have heard statements that some new formulas may be possible. We still need to learn more about them," Peskov said.

An F-16 fighter jet pilot shot down a Russian drone over the Black Sea, the defence ministry said on Sunday.

The Ukrainian president said in his evening address Moscow enlisted 221,000 people into the Russian military thus far in 2026, while sustaining nearly 225,500 losses among Russian soldiers, including 131,000 killed and almost 93,000 wounded this year alone, the Kyiv Independent reported.
"A significant share of those wounds are severe, as frontline medical care in Russia is catastrophically poor," Zelensky said.

Twelve people were killed, including five children, in an overnight drone attack on a holiday camp in a Russian-held part of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, Russian-installed local authorities said on Saturday, accusing Ukraine of deliberately attacking civilians.
Kyiv did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians in the war launched by Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Nineteen people were wounded in the attack on the resort area of Kyrylivka, located on the coast of the Sea of Azov near the town of Melitopol, said Russian-appointed governor Yevgeny Balitsky.
Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Ukrainian drones carried out the attack on "sleeping people" at the camp. She denounced "inhuman crimes", also referring to an attack on a factory in Russia's Kirov region on Thursday which killed six people.
A video posted online of the holiday camp showed shattered buildings, burned-out cars and a pile of rubble next to a swimming pool.
Balitsky said crews from Russia's Emergencies Ministry had extracted two survivors, including a child, and recovered another body from the rubble. He added that rescue operations had been completed.
"The enemy saw and understood who it was targeting," he said on the Telegram messaging app.
Tehran summons Ukraine diplomats over Caspian Sea attack

Iran's foreign ministry condemned on Saturday a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, saying it resulted in an explosion that killed one sailor and injured another.
Throughout the war, Kyiv has had to counter Iranian-designed drones deployed by Moscow. Kyiv has offered its drone interception expertise to countries in the Middle East that have suffered strikes from Iran.
Tehran described the attack on its vessel as an act of aggression and said it would defend its national interests and security, while accusing Kyiv of seeking to expand the war in Ukraine.
The Iranian foreign ministry summoned Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Tehran to convey its protest over what it described as a "hostile and criminal" attack, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported.
The Iranian denunciation coincided with comments by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy that Kyiv had noted Russia was passing on its satellite observations in the Middle East to Iran to enable it to direct strikes in the region.

Eleven people have been killed in attacks on holiday camps in the partly Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian-installed local authorities said on Saturday.
The strikes followed a major Russian attack on Friday near Kyiv that killed at least 10 people and wounded around 100 others.
Four children were among 11 people killed in the attack on the resorts in Zaporizhzhia, Yevgeny Balitsky, the Kremlin-installed regional head, said, adding that 16 others were wounded.
Romania shoots down suspected Shahed drone in its airspace for first time

Romania shot down a foreign drone in its airspace on Friday in the first interception of its kind, amid growing concern over UAVs straying into Nato territory.
An F-16 fighter jet shot down the drone near the town of Padina, in the east, at around 11am after it entered the country’s airspace, officials said, adding that an investigation was underway.

Romania’s defense ministry said its forces had “safely shot down” a drone that breached its airspace in an “unpopulated area” near the Ukrainian border.
The drone was “shot down by a Romanian pilot from an F-16 aircraft,” President Nicușor Dan said in a post on Facebook.
It came after a drone was shot down around Padina, northeast of the Romanian capital, Bucharest, on Friday.

Three people were injured during a fire at a warehouse operated by Russian online retail giant Wildberries in the Leningrad region, near St. Petersburg on Friday.
Governor Alexander Drozdenko attributed the fire to a Ukrainian drone attack.
Wildberries confirmed it had ceased operations at two regional logistics sites and evacuated staff from its Crimea warehouse.
