In a recent development, Ukrainian officials have reported that Moscow launched 96 drones and a guided air missile into Ukraine overnight into Sunday. The Ukrainian Air Force successfully destroyed 66 drones and the missile during the overnight attack. Additionally, 27 drones were reported as 'lost' in various areas, likely due to electronic jamming, while one drone strayed into Belarusian airspace. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as a result of these incidents.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Russia had unleashed approximately 900 guided aerial bombs, 500 drones, and 30 missiles against Ukraine in the past week. Zelenskyy made a plea to Ukraine's allies for 'long-range capabilities for our security', emphasizing that with adequate support from the international community, such attacks could have been prevented.
Zelenskyy also urged partners to impose effective sanctions to hinder Russia from importing critical components necessary for drone and missile production. This call for action comes after Zelenskyy highlighted that over 2,000 drones and missiles, which still contained Western components, were deployed against Ukraine in October. He stressed the importance of stricter export controls to prevent sanctions evasion.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that 19 Ukrainian drones were shot down in three regions of Russia overnight, with 16 in the Rostov region, two in the Belgorod region, and one in the Volgograd region. Tragically, a man lost his life in the Belgorod region due to a Ukrainian drone attack, as confirmed by regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
