Ukraine has launched its largest attack on Moscow since the start of the war, disrupting flights at two airports in the Russian capital. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a total of 34 drones were launched towards Moscow, with all of them being shot down by Russia's air defenses over the Moscow region between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The drones were shot down over the Moscow regions of Ramenskoye, Kolomna, and Domodedovo, causing shrapnel from the falling drones to ignite two houses in Ramenskoye. A 52-year-old woman sustained injuries from the shrapnel and was taken to the hospital with burns to her face, neck, and hands, where she remains in intensive care.
The attack led to the temporary restrictions of flights at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports, both serving the Moscow region, from just after 8 a.m. local time. These restrictions were lifted by 10 a.m. local time, as reported by Russia's federal air transport agency.
This recent drone attack marks the largest on Moscow, surpassing the previous incident in September when Russia claimed to have destroyed at least 20 Ukrainian attack drones. During that attack, one person was killed near Moscow, and three of the city's four airports were closed for over six hours, resulting in the diversion of almost 50 flights.
Efforts are underway to gather comments from Ukrainian officials regarding this latest development.
