Ukraine conflict: Lanarkshire group organise charity night to help refugees

A Lanarkshire group have organised a charity night to help refugees affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Cambuslang Rotary Club previously held a welcome evening for people from the Eastern European country who have been displaced by the current conflict and are now living locally.

Now the rotary club will be hosting a fundraising evening on Friday, November 25 at Cambuslang Rugby Club with the purpose of the evening to raise funds to assist Ukrainian refugees, families and children in the local area.

In addition the night will help support the work of Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine in Glasgow which runs two community hubs for displaced Ukrainians.

The club is organising the evening with the assistance of Tetyana Barnes who lives in Cambuslang and is one of lead volunteers with the Humanitarian Aid group.

There will be a meal prepared and cooked by members of the Ukrainian community and post dinner entertainment will also be provided by local Ukrainian refugees.

During the evening there will also be a small auction and raffle.

Earlier this year the Rotary handed out 60 £25 Aldi vouchers to Ukrainian refugees settling in the Cambuslang area.

The Rotary Foundation has distributed over £20,000 to a variety of club projects sending aid to Ukraine and also helped in assisting refugees in Scotland.

Tickets for the evening will cost £25 and are available from all club members.

The club would also like to hear from anyone interested in sponsoring the programme or wishing to donate prizes for the raffle and auction.

If you can help in anyway, please contact either Bill Crombie on 07809 416 870 or Robert Dickie on 07887 632 301 for more information.
