Ukaine has claimed to have killed a former MP accused of being a “puppet” to the Kremlin, reports have stated.
Illya Kyva, 46, was given a 14-year jail sentence for high treason and for calling for the occupation of Ukraine.
Mr Kyva had already fled the country and was therefore convicted in absentia.
As reported by the BBC, the former MP was killed outside the village of Suponevo, wets of Moscow.
"The criminal was liquidated by using small arms," a source said.
"Yes, we can confirm Kyva is no more. This fate will befall other traitors of Ukraine and puppets of Putin's regime," Andriy Yusov, spokesman for Ukraine's military intelligence, told Ukrainian TV.
Mr Kyva had campaigned unsuccessfully to be Ukraine’s president in 2019 and left the country a month before Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Separately, Russian-backed politician Oleg Popov was killed in a car bombing in Ukraine’s eastern city of Luhansk on Wednesday. Kyiv is yet to comment on the incident.
Since the invasion, Ukraine’s intelligence and military services have claimed several successful operations in occupied regions as well within Russia itself.
In July, a key bridge linking Russia to the annexed Crimea was severely damaged following a suspected Ukrainian drone attack.
The same bridge was also damaged by an explosion last October in an attack the Kremlin said was orchestrated by Ukrainian security forces.
