A 'pollen bomb' is expected to hit the UK this weekend, with Bristol issued with a red alert for 'very high' counts over three consecutive days at least. Throughout this week the Met Office's pollen forecast has been recording 'moderate' levels in the city, but that is due to change today (Saturday, April 15) when they will jump to 'high'.
Tomorrow (Sunday) it is expected to get even worse with 'very high' pollen levels expected, with Monday and Tuesday also showing the same. In the South West, which looks like it will be one of the worst-affected regions according to the forecast, this includes tree pollen such as birch, plane, willow and ash.
The Met Office's forecast for pollen only goes as far as Tuesday at the time of writing, so it is unclear when exactly next week hay fever sufferers can expect their symptoms to ease. Sunshine and temperatures of up to 17C are expected over the next few days in Bristol, which is a good few degrees warmer than this week.
