London is set to be warmer than tourism hotspots Ibiza and Crete later this week forecasters predict, with highs of up to 21C.

Met Office forecasters believe Thursday’s “fine and warm” weather could reach as high as 21C in the capital and south east, hotter than Ibiza’s predicted 19C and even Crete’s 20C.

However, the balmy temperatures will not reach the highs witnessed last month, when 23.4C was recorded at St James’s Park, which was the hottest day of the year so far.

Richard Miles, a forecaster with the Met Office, told the Standard: “The best of the days is going to be Thursday, if you’re looking for fine weather.

“Tomorrow, there will be showers, possibly heavy at times. It’ll be clear and fine on Thursday in London and the south east, and temperatures might get up to 20 to 21 degrees.

“Then on Friday, there’ll be showers again as another kind of trough moves through with a band of rain. At the weekend, it’ll be settling down and largely dry.

“For the weekend, you’re looking at 16 to 17C, temperatures like that, it might get up to 19”.

Many areas in England will reach the low 20s.

Brits could be heading for a sizzling summer, with forecasters predicting higher than average temperatures over the next few months.

According to the Met Office’s three-month forecast, “There is an increase in the likelihood of warmer-than-average conditions in the month ahead”.

“Predictions are consistent in suggesting an increase in the likelihood of temperatures being above average overall.

“While this doesn’t necessarily mean heatwaves will occur, it does increase the likelihood of heatwaves compared to normal.”
