Brits are set for a mix of heavy rain and sunny spells over the weekend while freezing temperatures overnight could bring snow in Scotland.
It was a bitterly cold night for some parts of the UK going into Thursday where the mercury dropped below zero and there is set to be some icy weather ahead.
Low pressure is bringing rain for many areas on Friday and into the weekend but for the areas that miss it they will see sunshine and temperatures could rise as high as 18C.
At night it will be cold with maps from WX Charts showing the mercury dropping to 0C for large areas of central Scotland going into Saturday morning.
There is also a possibility of a few centimetres of snow falling over the weekend in the west of Scotland.
Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said: "The weather is a lot more changeable as we go through the next few days and the charts are pretty ugly as well.
"Lots of low pressure systems to the north, bands of rain on these weather fronts as they move through, and a waving, wriggling weather front close by to the south.
"It all adds up to spells of rain, interspersed with dry and bright periods and then this area of low pressure could bring some more persistent rain up from the south west as we go through Sunday."
Looking to Friday morning he added: "A milder night compared to Wednesday night into Thursday morning where temperatures did drop down blow freezing, mostly staying above freezing especially in the south, well above freezing here."
BBC weather forecaster Louise Lear said that temperatures during Friday could reach the high teens on Friday.
"Intense outbreaks of rain through Scotland and Northern Ireland at the same time we’ve got this weather front moving through Channel coasts," she said.
"That will just cling on to the south and produce some outbreaks of light drizzle particularly towards the south east as we go through the day. The best of the drier weather in Wales, northern England before this weather front starts to spill out of Scotland by the middle of the afternoon.
"Behind it for Scotland and Northern Ireland brightening up, a breezy afternoon, sunny spells and noticeable fresher here 10C to 13C the high. But in the south east once again we will see those temperatures peaking into the high teens.”
