Brits are set for sunshine and spells of showers over the coming days before the temperature climbs to a high of 27C on Friday.
It will be fresher than last week with temperatures closer to normal with the mercury generally in the low 20Cs and high teens before they start to rise by Thursday.
There are set to be spells of rainfall but mainly for the north and unlikely to notably address the shortages that are affecting some southern areas.
Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: "Good news for holidaymakers this week, there will be some bright weather around, it will turn a little warmer by the end of the week as well.
"Bad news though if you are hoping for some significant rainfall to make up for the substantial deficit that many areas are experiencing at the moment. While there will be some showers around most days, I don’t think there will be anything especially useful in the forecast for this week.
"On the face of it high pressure is building in over the next few days, that then drifts east, a small area of low pressure floats to the south west by the middle of the week and then another high builds in from the south west for the weekend. Low pressure by Saturday will bring some more unsettled, changeable weather to the north of the UK but with high pressure close to the south a lot of the week and into the weekend, well, no significant rainfall expected.”
The jet stream is predicted to split going north and south, so by Wednesday it will bring instability and rainfall even if there is a high pressure over the country.
There are expected to be highs of 25C today and generally sunny in most areas along with scattered showers.
"For Tuesday for many places it starts off dry, there will be some cloud, remnants of a weather front that will have drifted south overnight and within this zone a few showers will develop by the afternoon, but the cloud will equally break up and there will be some sunshine reappearing across central areas," said Mr McGivern.
"Scotland, Northern Ireland seeing sunny spells, certainly a drier day compared to Monday, just a few scattered showers for the north of Scotland and most dry elsewhere. For Wales and the south west that is where the sunniest skies will be, and temperatures will respond in the sunshine, it will feel pleasant enough 22C to 25C in the south, 18C to 20C further north."
The temperatures will then rise to a peak of 27C in the south on Friday and generally across the country it will be in the low 20Cs.
