UK weather forecast: Met Office predicts exact time of 20C Spring mini-heatwave

Brits will continue to bake in a mini heatwave with temperatures now expected to remain scorching for the start of the weekend.

The UK will enjoys warmer weather than Spanish hotspots Marbella and Lanzarote on Thursday with another roasting day ahead.

The Met Office is predicting that temperatures could again peak at 20C on Thursday, for the third day in a row.

The south east of England will be the warmest today, with London enjoying the highs at 3pm this afternoon.

After first predicting a wintry weekend, the sun is now expected to shine for many on Saturday before Sunday sees a drop off in the heat.

Cambridgeshire may also see 19C today and temperatures could peak at 18C from 2pm in Liverpool, making it hotter than Barcelona.

The warm weather this week is the result of a high pressure system that has moved in from the east and is now settled on the country for the next few days.

We were told to enjoy it while we can but now it seems Saturday will also be baking, with 18C in the south now predicted.

However, things could take a massive turn as the UK enters April, with one weather service suggesting lows of -8C in Scotland.

Parts of Wales instead look set to see temperatures vary from 1C to 3C while England could see highs of just 4C in Cornwall.

But before the colder conditions do come, March will end with sun almost everywhere.

“This settled spell of spring sunshine carries on for the rest of the week and beyond," Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said.

“With clear skies expected tonight temperatures will fall away and a few mist and fog patches could form in one or two spots.

"They will be fairly isolated and most likely in parts of eastern England for example like recent nights with temperatures dipping away as well.

"A touch of frost in places as we start off Thursday. Frost free Western Isles, parts of Northern Ireland where it will turn cloudier through the night, perhaps one or two showers into the Western Isles.”

The UK's national weather service said in its long-range forecast: "Still settled for many at the start of next week but a trend to showery and colder conditions is expected to take place from the north from Monday.

“Showers will likely be focused on northern and eastern areas, potentially wintry over northern hills and at lower levels in the far northeast.

“A good deal of dry weather persisting in the south and west. Potential for strong winds in the far northeast early in the period.

“Later next week and beyond, more unsettled conditions are likely with more frequent showers or longer spells of rain for many areas.

“After a spell of below average temperatures next week, temperatures are likely to return to near average later in the period.”

Friday:

Again dry and warm with sunny spells for many although cloudier in the far northwest. One or two isolated afternoon showers may develop across northern England and southeastern Northern Ireland.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mainly settled with light winds and warm sunny spells; cloudier in the far north with occasional light rain. Early mist/fog patches in places, clearning inland but lingering near some coasts.
