UK weather forecast: Country to be hotter than Malaga as Brits to bask in 18C hot flush

Brit sun lovers can expect balmy temperatures over the coming days that could see it hotter than the south of Spain with highs of 18C - making it the warmest weekend of the year so far.

After a cold start to March, the weather is starting to finally feel a bit more like spring and next week the temperatures are expected to get even warmer.

“The weather is really settling down, there is going to be a lot of dry weather, probably for the next week or so,” said BBC weather forecaster Darren Bett.

And with highs of 18C it would mean the UK would enjoy temperatures higher than Malaga on the Costa del Sol where there is also rain expected over the next week.

But just before people put their winter coats away, it will be a cold start to Friday morning with a yellow Met Office warning for freezing fog that covers western England and Wales.

Under clear skies it will be frosty for much of the country and could dip to -6C in Scotland.

"Fog patches may cause some disruption to travel during the morning rush hour," said the Met Office with a yellow warning running until 8.30am through western England and Wales.

"A widespread frost with temperatures dipping down close to freezing if not below, certainly for the glens of Scotland we could see a value of -5 or -6C to start the day," said Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir.

"We run into this dense fog anywhere from the Midlands, mid-Wales down towards the West Country, central and southern England."

But the temperature will soon rise with warmest temperatures in central and southern England and Wales.

Ms Nasir continued: "Through the day on Friday plenty of blue sky and plenty of sunshine.

"The sunshine could turn hazy in the west of Scotland as we see more high cloud there and certainly quite a breeze across the Western Isles. Even so everywhere remains dry through the afternoon and that will really help temperatures up very nicely as we head through the middle part of the day.

"So temperatures coming in around 13C or 14C in Scotland or Northern Ireland. However we could see values peaking around 16C or 18C across mid-Wales, down towards the south east of England. That’s the picture on Friday, a bright end to the working week.”

Then on Saturday the warmest temperatures are expected to be in Scotland.

"Winds coming in from the east or the South East means that the highest temperatures are always going to be across more sheltered western areas,” said Mr Bett, of BBC weather.

“It could make 16C along the coast of north west England but it is up towards the north west Highlands and perhaps in the Moray Firth that temperatures could reach 17C or 18C, it could be the warmest day of the year so far.”
