Get the sun hats on and the lotion ready – Britain could be up for the hottest June ever.
A seven-day scorcher is expected from the end of this week as a “ Spanish plume ” brings in tropical weather.
Experts are confident it will hit 32C next week – hotter than Hawaii, where the palm trees will be swaying in a modest 29C.
And the bookies go even further, offering 3-1 on that the monthly average could be the hottest on record.
That would see Southend sizzling, Bournemouth baking and Torquay tingling.
Temperatures will reach a pleasant 22C in some parts of the UK today before steadily climbing through the week. The Spanish plume is expected to hit on Wednesday and by Friday and Saturday temperatures will be around 29C.
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “The low 30s are possible in the South-East.” The hottest single June days saw 35.6C, recorded in 1957 and 1976.
Bookmakers could find their fingers burnt if there is a rush of bets. Coral’s John Hill said: “As temperatures continue to sizzle in the UK, our odds are melting fast on this month ending as a record hot June.
“We make it odds-on for temperatures to climb into the early 30s next week, in what should be a scorching week.”
