Tinder has ranked the top 10 sexiest accents in the UK – and London doesn’t even make it in the top 10.
The year is coming to an end and Tinder’s answer to Spotify Wrapped, Year in Swipe, is back for another run.
Where 2023 was all about dating for the plot, 2024 daters are more driven by purpose and manifesting their dream relationships, Tinder says.
“Singles are embracing intentionality in their dating lives – being upfront about what they want and refusing to settle,” said Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s chief marketing officer. “This shift has driven three standout trends: Loud Looking, Kiss-met and Nano-ships.
“These trends are all about empowering choice – whether it's confidently stating your needs while Loud Looking, savouring serendipitous moments through Kiss-mets, or finding meaning in micro-connections with Nano-ships.
“While last year was focused on 'dating for the plot' and casually exploring, this year, singles are stepping up, leading with purpose and making their dating journeys truly their own.”
Part of the data it is unpacking includes the top 10 sexiest accents in the UK, according to UK data from Tinder bios, descriptors and interests between January 1 to October 1 2024.
Ten sexiest accents in the UK
In the number one spot is the Irish accent, followed by the Scottish accent. The closest to a London accent ranking is the Essex accent, coming in at a respectable third place.
Otherwise, the top 10 largely turns north, with Yorkshire, Sheffield, Scouse and Geordie all ranking in the top 10. Welsh, Cornish, and Brummie round out the list.
London also doesn’t rank when it comes to the cities in the UK that most people are passporting to – the practice of setting the in-app search to a different city from where they live, perhaps because they may be visiting in the near future.
Instead, the top five are (in order): Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and Edinburgh.
