'UK's most unwanted dog' spends 8 years in kennels - and rarely gets asked after

After spending eight long years searching for a home, Monty has become known as one of the UK's most unwanted dogs.

The lurcher was taken in by Last Chance Animal Rescue, in Edenbridge, back in 2014 - but has received very little interest throughout his stay.

The poor pooch, now eight-years-old, spent his first year of life crammed into a small cage - and has developed a hunched back because his previous owners kept him locked inside it for 24 hours a day.

Understandably, he has trust issues with humans - but, thanks to the team at Last Chance, he has been learning not everybody wants to hurt him.

A spokesperson said: "Monty he has been with us for nearly eight years and rarely gets asked after sadly.

"Monty has come from a bad past. His previous owners kept him in a crate that was too small for him for a long period of time.

"Since being with us, Monty has become very loving towards the staff and loves to have attention and cuddles on the sofa.

"But, of course, this has taken time and patience to achieve and we want to be frank about his hang ups."

Monty must be rehomed to one owner because he "doesn't want to share and can become very jealous", which can lead him to being aggressive.

He cannot live with other animals and will bark at other dogs when he is taken out on walks.

The troubled boy needs to wear a muzzle in public places.

"Unfortunately, he gets so frustrated that he hits your legs when wanting to get to other dogs, so his new owner needs to be quite strong.

"However, since being at Last Chance, Monty can now calmly walk with a dog in sight and not bark or hit your legs but this will take time to achieve in his new home.

"He would never be able to meet or live with dogs but would love a home with someone who can keep up his training and continue the work we have done with him. "

Monty loves to run and chase a tennis ball - but hasn't quite grasped that he needs to bring them back.

The spokesperson added: "The reason we have had Monty with us for so long is that he is not an easy dog but we are sure there may be someone out there he could call his own and will love him for what he is, a slightly damaged rogue.

"So to sum up we are looking for an adult only, single person home with no other pets, lots of patience, love, garden and tennis balls!

"He needs lots of visits to spend time with his new owners before adoption, so someone not too far from us would be ideal - unless you love long and frequent journeys."
