UK's most remote pub serves free beer to those brave enough to complete 'epic' hike

A remote pub has offered to give away free beer and all would-be drinkers have to do to get it is to reach it after a two-day hike.

The Old Forge, in the village of Inverie on the northern shore of Loch Nevis in the Highlands, is considered to be one of the most remote drinking holes in Britain.

Reaching it is not as simple as taking a stroll as there are no official roads to the pub.

The only options for those brave enough are to hike from Glenfinnan, which traditionally takes two days, or a sea ferry from Mallaig.

Anyone who complete the 15-mile challenge this summer from July 1 will get a free Trale Ale beer for their troubles from the pub’s owners, Knoydart Brewery.

Stephanie Harris, of The Old Forge, told the Daily Record: “Having recently carried out an extensive refurb on our community-owned pub, we are looking forward to reopening the doors and welcoming folk in at the end of their epic trail over the hills of the Rough Bounds to get here. Slainte."

Free Trales will be given away at The Old Forge from July 1st, limited to two per person, while stocks last, after a partnership with sports retailer Wiggle.

A limited number of non-alcoholic alternatives will also be available over the summer.

People can either make a 15 mile trek or arrive by boat (PA)

Huw Crwys-Williams, Wiggle CEO, said “At Wiggle, we’re always up for it, whatever the activity, and aim to encourage the same spirit among our customers.

“We’re delighted to have partnered with The Old Forge and Knoydart Brewery to create this unique new beer, while celebrating the very best of what the beautiful British outdoors has to offer.

"Visiting this remote peninsula is a special experience and we hope that gifting hikers and punters with a Trale will make it even more special.

“Just remember to quote “Wiggle” when at the bar!”
