Even politicians are clinging to the final moments of brat summer, as new footage of the UK’s deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner raving at an Ibiza nightclub has proven.
A clip of the deputy PM’s impromptu DJ set was posted to Instagram on Friday by English actress and singer Denise van Outen, and shows the politician dancing behind the decks alongside Australian producer and “Losing It” hitmaker Fisher.
Taking Fisher’s social media bio as more of an instruction, Rayner Followed the Fish to Hi Ibiza, the 5,000 capacity nightclub where the DJ was performing, and where I incidentally lost all my dignity circa 2019. Rayner is expected to return to parliament next week after the end of a (brat) summer parliamentary recess, so what else is there to do but jump behind the decks?
The pair — who are now an iconic music duo on par with Simon and Garfunkel (emphasis on the funk) or me and the shampoo bottle I sing into while showering — performed a remixed version of “Somebody That I Used To Know”, the 2011 smash hit by Australian singer Gotye.
Channelling Kamala Harris levels of brat, Rayner was seen wearing Fisher’s headphones, singing along to the lyrics, and clenching the raver girl starter kit item that is an ice cold bottle of water (something I regrettably lacked in 2019).
Proving to be a woman of many talents, Rayner’s surprise set came just hours after she posted images of herself on X attending a meeting with mayors and housing regulators to discuss residential matters in east London. I presume her itinerary read as such: midday: save the world. Midnight: rave.
According to reports, Rayner has long been something of a 365 party girl. Speaking at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year, the politician revealed she had just returned from Spain after raving with girls who were “half my age.” Vodka is admittedly Rayner’s drink of choice while at a rave, and her children call her the “vape dragon” due to her penchant for vaping.
It has similar energy as that time Anthony Albanese downed a beer during a Gang of Youths concert, and I’m almost compelled to announce him and Angela Rayner as the co-headliners of the Bunnings rave. Please God, no one invite Donald Trump.
