Britain's best gastropubs have been named for 2023 - with last year's winner being pipped to the post by a pub that changes its menu up to twice a day.
A bumper list of Top 50 gastropubs is released annually by Estrella Damm and publisher Chris Lowe to celebrate "excellence" in pub food across the country.
The big decisions made by food and hospitality experts - including gastropub operators, who are not allowed to vote for their own pubs.
Of this top 50, 11 this year are located in the Southwest and Wales, nine in the Northwest, and 13 in the Southeast and London.
This year's winner was chosen as the Parkers Arms near Clitheroe in Lancashire, after the country spot wowed industry heads and food-lovers with its talented kitchen staff and impressive menu, which it changes up to twice a day.
It is especially well-known locally for its pies and has been rising up the ranks for some time, moving up from 48th place in 2017 when it made its debut entry on the Top 50 list.
It narrowly edged out second-placed The Unruly Pig in Woodbridge, Suffolk, who hosted this year's event on Monday after coming out top in 2021.
The Parkers Arms was joined in the top 5 by nearby pub The Freemasons, while The Coach in Marlow landed at 15. Old favourite The Pack Horse in High Peak also made the top 20.
Top-placed in the capital was The Red Lion and Sun in Highgate at number 10, while the The Harwood Arms in Fulham came in three places behind.
A 'Ones to Watch' award celebrating those gastropubs which did not make the Top 50 but caught people's eye was also announced as the Victoria in Oxshott, Surrey,
The awards come this year as a vital means of promoting gastronomy at pubs across the UK in the context of many ongoing challenges to the industry, including cost of living pressures on customers, energy costs and the lasting effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on the importance of the scheme, Top 50 Gastropubs publisher Chris Lowe said: “After a tough few years for the hospitality industry, we are thrilled to see such a strong list of contenders this year.
"The Top 50 Gastropubs provides a platform for food-lovers to explore the very best offerings across the UK.”
