The best fish and chip shops in the UK have been revealed, including three chippies located in Scotland.
The National Fish and Chip Awards is the largest UK-wide event that recognises the best of the nation's fish and chip takeaways and restaurants. Among the categories featured are Best Newcomer, Best Mobile Operator, and Staff Training and Development.
Scottish chippies are represented in four categories: Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year, Field to Frier, Quality Accreditation Champion, and Environment and Sustainability Champion.
Two popular Scottish chippies are nominated for the prestigious Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year award. These are Low's Traditional Fish & Chips, which is based in the town of Westhill in Aberdeenshire, and The Fish Works in Largs in North Ayrshire.
Meanwhile, The Real Food Cafe in the Stirling village of Tyndrum is one of three eateries shortlisted for the Field to Frier award. This category recognises "businesses for their excellence in potato knowledge, care and chip preparation".
The Fish Works was also nominated in a further two categories: Quality Accreditation Champion and Environment and Sustainability Champion. The former "celebrates businesses throughout the UK that give their customers the best quality fish and chips" while the latter recognises "businesses that strive to achieve sustainable and environmentally friendly practices".
The awards have been held for more than 30 years. This year will mark the first time that they are hosted by the National Federation of Fish Frier (NFFF).
Speaking to The Mirror, The NFFF's president Andrew Crook said: "We are really excited for the return of the National Fish and Chip Awards after we became the custodians of this prestigious event.
"With so many challenges currently for these small independent businesses it is fantastic to be able to highlight the great work the industry does, serving great value meals, providing quality employment and minimising the impact on the environment."
The awards will be held on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, and will be hosted by comedian Jason Manford. More information can be found on the National Fish and Chip Awards website.
