The energy regulator has warned the UK that it is facing a 'significant risk' of gas shortages this winter.
Sky News is reporting that the regulator Ofgem has spoken of the possibility of 'gas supply emergency' measures to help preserve stocks due to the impact of the war in Ukraine.
The conflict, sparked by Russia's invasion of its neighbour, has starved Europe of its main source of natural gas.
As a result, a gas supply emergency could be declared. This can happen when suppliers are unable to safely get gas to businesses and homes.
Should this happen, for a temporary period customers would be asked to stop using gas in a bid to keep supplies stable.
