How to keep cool in a heatwave – everything you need to know

  • The UK is experiencing its third heatwave of the year, with temperatures forecast to reach 34C in the south east of England.
  • A week-long yellow heat health alert from the UKHSA began on Saturday, covering parts of England until Saturday 11 July at 8pm.
  • The Met Office advises avoiding direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm and shutting curtains to “keep indoor spaces cooler.”
  • An air conditioning technician at Super Brothers, Alex Atkinson, suggests “minimising the use of ovens, stoves, or dryers during the hottest periods, alongside keeping hydrated and having cool showers throughout the day.”
