UK heatwave: Temperatures to hit 34C this week - check forecast in your area

Britain is headed for another scorcher this week with the mercury set to reach up to 34 degrees.

The warmer weather started to creep back in across south east England on Sunday with temperatures climbing to 27 degrees by 3pm.

High pressure will see peak temperatures continue to rise and could even push thermometer readings into the mid 30s once more.

Last month, the UK recorded temperatures of over 40C for the first time ever and it appears the summer heatwaves are not over yet.

The sunshine is expected to return this week with the Met Office predicting highs of 28C on Monday gradually heating up into the weekend.

By Wednesday, the south should see highs of 31C creeping up to 34C by the beginning of next week although this depends on a possible cold front which could dampen things.

Parts of the UK could see more heatwave conditions for three days or more, according to the national weather agency.

Higher than average temperatures are also expected for "many areas of the UK" with further details from the Met Office detailed below according to region.

North England

North West England is expected to remain dry and fine this week and turn increasingly warm over the coming days.

Highs of 24C are forecast on Monday heating up to 25C on Tuesday. This is set to continue with plenty of sunshine throughout the week reaching 26C by Friday.

Similar conditions are forecast for the North East which is also headed for highs of 24C and 25C on Monday and Tuesday retrospectively.

In the West Midlands, the mercury is set to reach 28C on Monday with plenty of late sunshine followed by highs of 30C on Tuesday.

The rest of the week is forecast to get increasingly hot and dry with clear skies and warnings of high UV levels.

Temperatures are slightly milder in the East Midlands where the mercury is expected to stay within the 20s, reaching 29C by Tuesday.

Warm or hot temperatures will remain throughout the week with light winds and possible patchy cloud. The same temperatures are predicted for the East of England which should also see patches of cloud and hazy sunshine at times.

Southern Scotland will see highs of 22C on Monday rising to 24C in Edinburgh and 21C in Glasgow on Tuesday.

The rest of the week is expected to remain dry and bright with sunshine lasting the rest of the week.

Forecasters say the south west will be cloudy and mostly dry, with some patches of drizzle across Argyll on Wednesday. The best of the sunshine will later veer its head on Thursday and Friday.

While South East and the Borders will remain dry and bright with plenty of sunshine and upward trending temperatures.

Wales

It follows record-breaking temperatures in the UK last month (PA)

Wales will experience highs of 22C in the south and 20C in the north, with the warm also predicted to remain throughout the week.

Despite the morning mist, Cardiff will welcome 27C on Monday followed by a brighter start to Tuesday and another sunny day with temperatures creeping up to 28C by Thursday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "The dry weather will continue throughout period with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures continuing to climb making it feel very warm or hot at times."

Northern Ireland

The weather is expected to remain warm and dry for most of the UK this week (PA)

In Northern Ireland, temperatures will reach a pleasant 18C in the west including Belfast and a warmer 20C in the west on Monday.

This will heat up to 20C and 22C retrospectively on Tuesday and remain the same throughout the week except for Belfast and the surrounding area which could peak at 24C.

Towards the end of the week, the mercury will begin to fall by one to two degrees but conditions will remain dry and bright.

Overall it means southern and eastern Britain will reach the high-20Cs on Monday before hitting the 30Cs again on Tuesday.

While Scotland, Wales and the north will avoid the highest heat as the mercury hovers between the mid-teens and low 20Cs.
