UK Government urged to hold Israel to account after deadliest strikes in weeks

A LEADING humanitarian aid organisation has called for Israel to be held accountable after the deadliest attack on Gaza since the end of July.

At least six people, including a child, were killed after a missile strike targeted a small cafe in a fishing harbour in western Gaza City.

Fourteen others were also wounded in the attack.

Israel claimed the strike targeted Hamas commanders and several other individuals involved with the militant group who were planning attacks against Israeli forces in Gaza.

Reuters reports that no evidence has been given to support these claims.

The harbour has been used as a major displacement camp for Palestinian families since Israel launched its invasion of the Gaza Strip in October 2023, in the wake of the October 7 attacks carried out by Hamas.

The attack was the deadliest since airstrikes resumed on August 12 after more than a week's pause amid further ceasefire negotiations.

While airstrikes have slowed in recent months as international parties seek an end to the long-running invasion, Israel has continued its violent offences into Gaza, with at least 1273 people having been killed since the thinly-veiled Hamas-Israel ceasefire began in October 2025.

Now, officials from humanitarian organisation Medical Aid for Palestine have hit out at Israel's breaches of the so-called ceasefire, saying "the killing never stops".

Mai Elawawda, MAP's communications officer in Gaza, said: "It has been more than 300 days since the so-called 'ceasefire', yet Palestinians in Gaza continue to be killed almost every day – the killing never stops.

"I keep thinking about the people who were at the sea yesterday. For many Palestinians, the sea is one of the very few places they can go to try to escape the heat, take a moment away from the conditions they are living in, or simply feel some sense of normality.

"And yet, there is the continued fear of Israeli military attacks happening anywhere in Gaza, at any moment.

"I can’t help but think of my own family, and of myself, and what it means to know that you could be among those killed simply while trying to get away for a few hours, sit by the sea, or take a breath.

"Alongside this, people are still living through forced displacement, the extreme summer heat, unbearable conditions in tents, lack of water, and the constant struggle of getting through the most basic parts of daily life.

"This cannot continue. Palestinians must be protected.

"The daily killing and suffering must end. And most importantly, a ceasefire must be an actual ceasefire."

In the wake of the attacks, MAP has issued a list of demands to the UK Government in a bid to provide a framework to ensure accountability.

The organisation has called on the UK to:

  • Ensure the ceasefire is upheld, becomes permanent, and ends Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
  • Ensure accountability for all violations of international law and signal clear support for international accountability mechanisms, including the International Criminal Court.
  • Suspend all arms sales to Israel, including parts for F-35 fighter jets, and end all military co-operation with Israel until violations end.
  • Allow full humanitarian access in order to restore Gaza’s health system.
