As she looks set to make a big dent in the top 40 this week with her entry I Wrote A Song, the United Kingdom's Eurovision act, Mae Muller, has been handed a massive running order boost, months before the contest.
After loads of speculation and chart stars like Birdy and Freya Ridings being linked with the role, it was officially confirmed on Thursday, March 9 that 25-year-old Mae would be flying the flag for the UK at Eurovision this year in Liverpool. And the 25-year-old, who has previously supported Little Mix on tour, has caused quite a stir already, shooting straight to number 1 hours after I Wrote A Song's release and now looking on course to enter the top 20 of the official charts by the end of this week.
Mae gave her first TV interview about doing Eurovision 2023 in a special programme which aired right before The Apprentice on BBC One last week, sharing her excitement at getting to compete in the world famous event.
And now, as well; as her imminent chart success, she's been handed some more good news, after the United Kingdom and Ukraine, who won last year, have had their places in the final running order announced. Ukraine, who triumphed in Turin with Kalush Orchestra, will take to the stage in 19th place, while Mae will close the whole show, performing in 26th place for the UK.
UK based Eurovision fans have been quick to react to the news, with many over the moon with Mae's slot, giving that featuring later on in proceedings has always proved to be a good omen. Underneath a post on the official Eurovision Twitter, one excited fan wrote: "Closing the show...let’s go!"
Equally happy with the outcome,l a second replied: "SHE WILL SLAYYYYYY."
As one of the 'big five' along with France, GERmany, Italy and Spain, the UK automatically qualify for the final; with Ukraine doing so as well due to them being host nation. All of the other countries will need to qualify from either of the semi finals.
