Millions of UK households are facing higher energy bills this winter after Ofgem raised the domestic price cap by 4%, with further increases possible in January as elevated wholesale gas prices continue to put pressure on household finances.

The energy regulator announced on Wednesday, 26 August, that the price cap will rise from £1,663 to £1,723 a year for a typical household paying by Direct Debit from 1 October. The new level will remain in place until 31 December 2026.
