UK drivers issued sunglasses warning amid prospect of £5,000 fine

UK drivers have been warned to take care over the types of sunglasses worn behind the wheel. Some sunglasses can cause glare when driving, and experts say some sunglasses may not be safe when travelling on roads, the Mirror Online reports.

According to the Highway Code, drivers must slow down - or stop if they need to do so - when dazzled by sunlight. And anyone failing to do so could be fined up to £5,000.

Using tinted glasses, lenses and visors at night or in poor visibility is also prohibited if they restrict your vision, with penalties ranging from points on your license, an unlimited fine, and even potential disqualification. According to reports, the number of people searching for “What are polarised sunglasses?” rose by 200 percent during a period on UK Google, polarised sunglasses designed to minimise glare from reflecting light.
