Ugliest dog in the UK enjoys 'makeover' during pamper day at luxury animal spa

A dog named the UK's ugliest has been treated to a pamper day and 'makeover' at a luxury animal spa. Peggy - the runt of an accidental litter - is a cross between a pug and a Chinese crested breed.

The four-year-old earned her title earlier this month through a competition run by ParrotPrint.com. Her moment of fame saw her make appearances on BBC Breakfast, ITV’s This Morning, Channel 5 News, BBC Radio Five Live and BBC Look North.

Peggy has now been treated to her prize of a pampering session and beauty treatments at a doggie spa. Her owner Holly Middleton, from East Yorkshire, will also receive a framed canvas portrait of her much-loved pet.

At the spa Peggy had a hydrobath followed by a blueberry facial then a hand dry and trim before finishing with a paw and nose balm treatment. There was a final spritz of fragrance so she left the groomer looking and smelling fantastic.

Holly said: "Thank you so much to ParrotPrint.com for the whole experience, and all the lovely ladies at the exclusive doggie spa. Being part of the ugliest dog competition has been brilliant from start to finish. Peggy has loved every second and has been absolutely lapping up all of the fuss and attention."

She added: "The makeover was fabulous and Peggy was treated like an absolute queen. What little hair she has is extremely soft and fluffy and she smells divine, which is rare. She’s been absolutely spoiled rotten but she 100% deserves it."

Holly found Peggy online in 2018 and said it was love at first sight. She was six months old and the last remaining pup of her litter.

Despite her unusual appearance, Holly said Peggy is a "completely healthy and happy dog", and her tongue does not cause her any issues. Other than needing to wear jumpers for warmth in colder weather and sun cream in the summer, she is the same as any other dog.

Chief judge and ParrotPrint founder Matt Dahan said: "We all absolutely adore Peggy. When we launched this contest I never once thought we’d find a dog like her who manages to be both ugly and so, so cute all at the same time.

"She is so loved by Holly and her family which is fantastic to see. "
