Sean O'Malley is in an open relationship with wife Danya Gonzalez and has admitted he has had "dope threesomes" since the pair got together.
O'Malley has been fighting in the UFC's bantamweight division since 2017 and is viewed as one of the promotion's brightest stars. He has just one loss to his name with 11 wins by KO and he will make the biggest step up of his career tonight when he takes on leading contender Petr Yan at UFC 280.
'Suga' is in a relationship with wife Gonzalez, with whom he shares a daughter Elena, but has revealed that the pair are open to introducing other sexual partners to each other as he is against the idea of having just one. He said on the Full Send podcast : “Everyone’s definition of an open relationship is different. I like to think of ours as just an open-minded relationship where we don’t own each other.
"I don’t own her, and she doesn’t own me. When I first met Danya, I told her, ‘I don’t know why anyone would f*** the same chick for the rest of their life, I can’t do that.’ So she knew she wasn’t in love with a phoney me. We’ve had some dope threesomes. Every relationship should be okay with it, that just needs to happen.”
O'Malley met Gonzalez long before his rise to fame in the UFC, and the pair had their only daughter back in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. The bantamweight contender puts a lot of his success inside the octagon down to his relationship with Gonzalez who he has been with for several years now.
Despite admitting he is against the idea of committing to one sexual partner, O'Malley has admitted he would be lost without his wife. "I don't like how relationships are nowadays, it's like 'I own you, you own them', I don't want to be in that kind of relationship," he added. "I love Dayna, we've been together pretty much my entire career. She's known me since before I made money, we've got a really cool relationship. She's the f****ng best, if I lost her I'd be f****ng screwed."
Gonzalez is a hair stylist but shares a passion for MMA in a similar way to her husband having competed in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments earlier in her life. The pair met a UFC gym when O'Malley approached his wife-to-be and asked for her Instagram details which saw them get into a relationship.

He has admitted that their open relationship has not always been smooth with bumps along the way. "We broke up at one point for probably a couple of months, because I f***ed up," he said. “I was in Vegas, smashed some biscuits, and sometimes it’s hard for me to put emotions out of it. I smashed biscuits, and I was like, ‘I like her’, and I f***ed up Since that time, it has not happened anymore, I feel like I definitely learnt and grew from that.”
The pair remain committed to each other and Gonzalez remains an integral part of the UFC contender's life and attends the shows that he fights in. He recently left her a sizeable $5,000 cash stash as he jetted off to Abu Dhabi to take on the sternest examination of his UFC career.
However the 27-year-old has admitted that his partner has been reluctant to find another sexual partner on her own despite expressing her desire to do so. “I was hooking up with this one chick, and Dany knew - we had hooked up together at one point - she was getting a little jealous, and she was like, ‘I want to have sex with someone, and you know him’, and it was one of my buddies," he said.
“I swear to god, I messaged that kid, and I said, ‘you know what kind of relationship we’re in. I’m not going to be mad at you if she hits you up, you have my word’. It never went anywhere, but in my mind, I accepted and was okay with it if she were to do that. It’s because it was something she wants to do and it has nothing to do with me, it’s not because I’m ugly, it’s not because I can’t f*** her good. It’s not to do with any of those things. It’s because it’s one of her desires.”
