UFC Fight Night London: Wales' Mason Jones loses decision while Pimblett steals the show

The UFC returned to London on Saturday night for the second time in 2022, in what was one of the most anticipated cards of the year.

In the main event of the evening Tom Aspinall faced off with American heavyweight Curtis Blades, though there was an overall mixed bag of results for the British fighters on the night.

In the main event, Wigan's Aspinall took on bookies' favourite Curtis Blades, though was forced to end the bout early after what looked like a serious knee injury just seconds in. It was an anti-climatic end to what was otherwise an electric night with the London crowd singing and chanting throughout.

Elsewhere on the card, Liverpudlian duo Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann stole the show as they both gained stoppage victories in what were two of the more exciting match-ups of the night.

Pimblett, who faced off with eccentric American Jordan Leavitt, submitted his opponent with a second-round rear naked choke just moments after landing a brutal knee to the head. He went on to stun the crowd with an emotional post-fight speech, urging men to speak out about their mental health after the death of a close friend just a day before his fight.

His team-mate Molly McCann gained an equally impressive victory, as she knocked out Hannah Goldy with a spectacular spinning elbow and follow-up punches.

On the under card, Welshman Mason Jones was defeated by Ludovic Klein via a unanimous decision after being dropped by a massive punch in the second round. While Jones did well to survive the onslaught of Klein, it was the Slovak fighter who went on to dominate the match-up with dominant top control on the ground.
