UFC champion could be stripped of title due to horror eye injury

  • UFC president Dana White has revealed the promotion will discuss whether to strip Tom Aspinall of his heavyweight title as the British fighter approaches a full year out of action.
  • The 33-year-old champion suffered a rare eye condition requiring multiple surgeries after being poked in both eyes during a no-contest bout against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in October 2025.
  • White suggested Aspinall could follow former flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in vacating his belt to avoid stalling the heavyweight division while his health status is assessed.
  • Although Aspinall returned to full training in June aiming for a rematch with Gane, who has since captured the interim heavyweight belt, there remains no clear timeline for his return.
  • Aspinall was upgraded to undisputed champion following Jon Jones's retirement in June 2025, but his ill-fated clash with Gane remains his first and only title defence.
