TORONTO – The women’s bantamweight division is one step closer to a new champion after Raquel Pennington and Mayra Bueno Silva made weight for the UFC 297 co-main event.
After Amanda Nunes retired and vacated the title this past June, the promotion will finally determine the new ruler of the weight class when Pennington (15-8 MMA, 12-5 UFC) and Bueno Silva (10-2-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) meet in a five-round contest at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) .
Before stepping in the octagon, however, both women had to make weight. They did that Friday at the UFC host hotel, where Pennington weighed 134.8 pounds and Silva registered at 135.
