VANCOUVER, British Columbia – MMA Junkie was on scene at Friday’s UFC 289 fighter weigh-ins.
The early weigh-ins took place at the UFC host hotel in Vancouver and precede the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans, which take place at 7 p.m. ET at Rogers Arena. The same venue hosts Saturday’s event, which has a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+
Among those who weighed in were women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (22-5 MMA, 15-2 UFC) and top contender Irene Aldana (14-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC), who meet for the title in the main event. Aldana was the first fighter to hit the scales and hit her mark exactly at 135 pounds, the same weight Nunes registered at minutes later.
Former UFC champ Charles Oliveira (33-9 MMA, 21-9 UFC) and Beneil Dariush (22-4-1 MMA, 16-4-1 UFC) made weight in the middle of the pack – and each looked to the sky in relief once their weights were announced. They meet in the 155-pound co-main event, which could have title implications.
