UFC 280 takes place at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews and ESPN+.
In the main event, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira (33-8 MMA, 21-8 UFC) takes on Islam Makhachev (22-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) for the vacant 155-pound title. In the co-feature, bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling (21-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) meets former titleholder T.J. Dillashaw (17-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) for the belt. Plus, Sean O’Malley (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) fights ex-bantamweight champ Petr Yan (16-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in what likely is a title eliminator.

Lina Lansberg vs. Karol Rosa
Round 1 – First fight of the morning, here we go. And Lansberg comes out firing! She drops Rosa with a right hand, but Rosa quickly gets up. Lansberg staying patient here and not rushing in to force the finish. Rosa closes the distance and clinches Lansberg against the cage. Lansberg now reverses the position, and she’s the one pressuring. Three minutes left. Rosa hits a judo throw from the clinch and lands in half guard. Rosa working from top with some decent shots. Two minutes left. Rosa keeping good control. Rosa maintains control, with not much damage, all the way to the bell.

Round 2 – Rosa gets a takedown 20 seconds into the round. Not much resistance from Lansberg. Rosa in complete control here, but not doing much damage. Three minutes left. Lansberg pushes Rosa off, but Rosa hovers over while landing leg kicks on a downed Lansberg. Lansberg tries to get back up, and she eats a big knee to the chin! The fight it stopped by the referee. It looks like it was illegal. Doctor checks Lansberg, makes sure she’s ok. The fight resumes on the feet and Rosa gets a point taken off. And back to the ground goes Lansberg, nice takedown by Rosa. One minute left. Rosa controls the action until the bell

Round 3 – Final round. Lansberg comes out with a sense of urgency here and immediately puts on the striking pressure. Lansberg closes the distance and presses Rosa against the cage. And she gets reversed. Rosa now pressuring Lansberg against the cage. Another reversal. Good knees to the body by Lansberg. And Rosa reverses the position. Three minutes left. Oh! Good elbow by Rosa. And now a spinning elbow by Rosa! Two minutes left. Lansberg reverses the position against the cage. They break away finally. And they’re going toe to toe. Good elbows from both ladies. One minute left. Lansberg clinches again, but Rosa reverses the position. Rosa tries for a throw, but fails. They break away again and Rosa lands a spinning elbow. The bell rings.

Malcolm Gordon vs. Muhammad Mokaev
Round 1 – Here we go. Big moment for prospect Mokaev. And the fight is on, and it’s wild from the very start. Gordon putting on the pressure here on Mokaev. He’s connecting with some solid shots. Mokaev gets a takedown a minute in. He’s now controlling Gordon against the cage. Gordon scrambles and gets back to his feet, but Mokaev brings him right back down. Mokaev working from guard, landing shots but not causing much damage. Two minutes left. Great defense from bottom by Gordon. He’s not really taking any damage. One minute left. Mokaev in full control here. He maintains top control until the end.

Round 2 – Mokaev trying out some flashy kicks, but unable to connect. And a clean right-hand lands for Gordon. Mokaev immediately takes him down, and he’s back working from guard against the cage. Good control here by Mokaev. Gordon tries to scramble out, but Mokaev is all over him. Three minutes left. Mokaev improves to side control. He attempts a choke from top, but Gordon defends well and gets out before it gets close. And Gordon reverses the position! One minute left. Good shots from top by Gordon. Mokaev now goes for a triangle choke, but fails. Gordon gets Mokaev’s back in the final seconds, but the bell rings.

Round 3 – Gordon rushes in and gets taken down in the first five seconds of the round. Bad move by Gordon. Mokaev once again controlling the action from guard by the cage. And Gordon scrambles out, slams Mokaev, and now gets his back. What a chance of winds here. Three minutes left. Mokaev gets out of the back mount, and pulls Gordon in his guard. Mokaev is able to scramble once again and presses Gordon against the cage. And Mokaev gets a takedown. Two minutes left. Gordon landing some good elbows from bottom, but still getting controlled. Mokaev gets Gordon’s back, slips off, but he immediately transitions to an armbar. And it’s over! Mokaev wins by sumission.

AJ Dobson vs. Armen Petrosyan
Round 1 – Fun middleweight booking here. Both guys looking to fight on the feet. Petrosyan looks content to stay on the outside, while Dobson pressure. Good body kick by Petrosyan. Petrosyan letting go here a lot more. Dobson a bit hesitant. Good leg kick lands by Petrosyan. And Dobson with a clean one two combo. Three minutes left. Petrosyan with way more output here. Two minutes left. Another leg kicks connects for Petrosyan. A left lands for Petrosyan. Dobson hasn’t taken any big shots, but he’s clearly losing on the feet. And Dobson goes for a takedown. He briefly gets it, but then ends up controlling Petrosyan against the cage. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Once again, Petrosyan outworking Dobson at the start of round two here. Dobson showing great defense, not really allowing Petrosyan’s offense to have full impact. However, he’s not firing back enough to match Petrosyan’s volume. Petrosyan with some good leg kicks. Dobson now goes for a takedown, but doesn’t get it. They’re back in striking, but it seems Petrosyan’s left knee is a bit hurt. The bell rings.

Round 3 – Petrosyan lands a few good kicks followed by a left hook to get things started. Nice body kick by Petrosyan. Petrosyan seems to be ok as far as a potential knee injury. Dobson connects clean with a left hook. Petrosyan is a little busted up, he’s bleeding from his right cheek bone. Three minutes left. It seems Dobson is upping the pressure and volume here. Petrosyan with more leg kicks here. Both fighters exchanging here, but nothing landing flush. One minute left. They trade shots in the final 60 seconds, but again, nothing significant lands for either fighter.

Abubakar Nurmagomedov vs. Gadzhi Omargadzhiev
Round 1 – Both fighters trade kicks early. Nurmagomedov shoots seconds into the fight, but Omargadzhiev stuffs it and is working on a guillotine choke as he controls with a front headlock. Omargadzhiev lands a few knees to the head from that position. All legal. And they’re back on their feet striking. Now, Omargadzhiev is the one that shoots. He gets it. Nurmagomedov reverses the position, but gets caught in a guillotine choke. Nurmagomedov looks safe, as he’s in half guard. And he escapes, but Omargadzhiev recovers guard. Nurmagomedov not doing much from top control, he’s not landing any shots. One minute left. Nurmagomedov controls Omargadzhiev until the bell.

Round 2 – Nurmagomedov closes the distance here and presses Omargadzhiev against the cage. And the fight is paused. Omargadzhiev took an illegal knee to the head, as he was downed. The doctor checks Omargadzhiev and says he’s good to go. No point taken away here. The fight resumes. Omargadzhiev shoots and gets reversed in his takedown attempt. Nurmagomedov gets his back now. Three minutes left. Crazy scramble by Omargadzhiev, escapes back mount, but ends with Nurmagomedov in his guard. Nurmagomedov in full control. One minute left. Omargadzhiev with a knee bar attack, but doesn’t come close. Nurmagomedov still on top controlling, but not doing much damage.

Round 3 – Nurmagomedov lands a good leg kick to start the round. Omargadzhiev looks a bit tired in comparison to Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov putting on the pressure here on the feet. Good jab by Nurmagomedov. Omargadzhiev unable to land anything meaningful. Nurmagomedov shoots for the takedown, but gets stuffed. They’re back on their feet. Omargadzhiev with a hard left hook. Both fighters exhausted. Omargadzhiev shoots and fails to get a takedown. Omargadzhiev is still hunting for that takedown from the sprawl position. A bit of a stalemate. They’re back up Nurmagomedov lands a right and the bell rings.

Round 1 – And it’s an all out brawl. Oezdemir is putting the pressure and cracks Kryvlov with several shots. Kryvlov fires back, but Oezdemir is clearly landing the cleaner shots. So far, Kryvlov’s chin is holding up. Things are starting to cool down now. Four minutes left. Kryvlov now gets a takedown, but Oezdemir right back up. Now Kryvlov pressures Oezdemir against the cage. Three minutes left. Oezdemir escapes and they’re back striking. Oh! Kryvlov stuns Oezdemir. Kryvlov closes the distance and takes him down. Kryvlov has the back. He sinks in the rear-naked choke. Oezdemir escapes. This is a wild, wild fight. Oezdemir catches a kick and now Kryvlov ends on bottom. Good shots from top by Oezdemir. Kryvlov gets back to his feet and the bell rings almost immediately after.

Round 2 – And another crazy start here. Oezdemir gets rocked. Both fighters trade shots. Oezdemir appears to have recovered. Kryvlov now takes the fight to the ground. He works from guard. Oezdemir gets back to his feet, but he’s being pressured against the cage by Kryvlov. Three minutes left. Oezdemir gets taken down, but he finds a way back up, and this time gets the fight back striking. Kryvlov lands a good combo and brings the fight right back to the ground. Two minutes left. Kryvlov’s wrestling has cooled down the action here. He works from top, but not doing much damage. One minute left. Kryvlov stays on top until the bell.

Round 3 – Kryvlov has found a much more manageable way to win this fight, rather than brawling with Oezdemir. Kryvlov takes the fight to the ground early in the round. He’s working from guard, keeping busy with ground-and-pound. Oezdemir looks very tired. Three minutes left. After not much action, the referee stands up the fighters. Oezdemir has slowed down plenty. Kryvlov pressuring and landing clean on Oezdemir. Kryvlov shoots for another takedown and gets it with ease. Kryvlov working from guard, again. One minute left. Kryvlov now landing ground-and-pound with a bit more power than before. And the final bell rings.

Borralho is now in full mount. Complete control by Borralho. Two minutes left. And Borralho goes for the armbar and Muradov gets out. Borralho now ends up on bottom. Muradov hovering over a downed Borralho solid up kick by Borralho! Muradov now dives in Borralho’s guard. Solid shots from top by Muradov. And the bell rings.

Round 2 – Both fighters being very tentative here. Not much going on. And Muradov shoots on Borralho and gets caught in a guillotine. It looks tight, but Borralho doesn’t have guard. Two minutes left. Not much action here. One minute left. Muradov controlling Borralho, but not much beyond that. The bell rings with Borralho reversing the position.

Round 3 – It looks like it’s a one round fight now. Good leg kick by Borralho. Muradov answers back with a left. Both guys visibly tired, but Muradov might be the fresher fighter. Muradov backs Borralho with strikes and then takes him down. Muradov gets caught in a guillotine shoke in the process. He rolls to his back and Borralho is now on mount still threatening. Muradov escapes, but now on bottom. Muradov recovers guard. Two minutes left. Borralho keeps top control and lands good shots all the way until the final bell.

Round 1 – Big welterweight fight here. Despite both fighters having great grappling, Muhammad and Brady happy to trade on the feet. Fairly even here, but Brady has connected a bit better. Muhammad is starting to land better now. Two minutes left. A right hands connects clean by Brady. And now a left. One minute left. Brady with a left. Muhammad closes the round well, by teeing off on Brady in the final seconds.

Round 2 – Hard leg kicks by Brady. Again, it seems these two are happy to strike. Muhammad pressuring Brady on the feet, but Brady is getting the better of the exchanges. Big left hook for Brady. Credit to Muhammad his chin is something else. Brady chops Muhammad with a leg kick and as he gets up he checks him with a left. Oh! Muhammad stuns Brady bad. Big right hand for Muhammad! He’s all over him. Non-stop pressure. Brady is still on his feet, but Muhammad all over him. And the referee steps in and stops the fight. Brady complains about the stoppage.

Round 1 – Here we go! First fight of the PPV. Fiorot pressuring, while Chookagian stays on the outside. Good kicks by Chookagian, as expected. A lot of shots from Chookagian hitting air, but Fiorot not attacking much. It’s now Chookagian doing most of the pressuring. Two minutes left. Big front kick to the face by Chookagian. Not much going on here in terms for damage or significant strikes. The round ends.

Round 2 – Fiorot clips Chookagian with a left after a caught kick in the first sequence of the round. It seems Fiorot plans to counter here. Good left hook by Fiorot. Another one. Fiorot looking much better in this second round. Both are swinging often, but a lot is not connecting. Two minutes left. Chookagian is connecting, but there’s a clear power difference between the two. The bell rings.

Round 3 – It seems the momentum has shifted in favor of Fiorot. The French fighter is connecting just as much as Chookagian, but her power is clearly higher. Chookagian’s face shows that. Fans are not happy with the fight and boos are starting to break out in the arena. Big left hook by Fiorot. One minute left. And Fiorot lands a takedown. She controls for a few seconds and Chookagian gets back up. Fiorot clinches her and connects with a knee to the body in the final sequence.

Round 1 – A caught kick by Gamrot sparks a wild scrambling sequence. It’s hard to describe using words. Anyways, they’re back on their feet and the fans are cheering. Good leg kick by Dariush. Gamrot is bleeding from his ear. Gamrot catches another kick from Dariush and takes him down. Darisuh wastes no time and goes on attack mode from bottom. He’s working for a heel hook. Dariush abandons it after a bit, and they go to their feet. Gamrot presses Dariush against the cage. Two minutes left. Gamrot shoots, Dariush stuffs it, but they get caught in a weird position. It’s a stalemate and they shortly resume the fight on the feet. Nothing happens before hearing the bell. Very close round.

Round 2 – Gamrot attempts a couple of takedowns, but comes up short. Dariush connecting with leg kicks and jab. Oh! And a big knee by Dariush. He’s getting the better of the striking exchanges. Gamrot shoots and fails again. Dariush’s takedown defense is on point tonight. Big left from Dariush. We’re halfway through the round. Gamrot shoots and eats a knee in the process, he’s unable to get the takedown. Dariush looking good here. One minute left. The fight is not very high paced, but it’s extremely tense. Each move feels consequential. Gamrot with a jumping knee and a takedown in the final seconds of the round. Clear round for Dariush.

Round 3 – Again, Gamrot with an early takedown attempt, but doesn’t get it. Dariush with a couple of consecutive leg kicks. Gamrot shoots for another takedown, but Dariush’s takedown defense is out of this world. Both fighters very hesitant. WHAT! A giant left hook drops Gamrot. Unreal chin by Gamrot as he gets right back up. Easily the biggest shot of the fight. Gamrot with another takedown attempt i the final 30 seconds and this time gets it. But not for long. Dariush is right back up.

Sean O'Malley vs. Petr Yan
Round 1 – They touch gloves and O’Malley starts with a leg kick. Yan quickly counters with a punch upstairs. O’Malley begins to circle on the outside and looks for a kick to the body. They both switch stances at the same time as they size each other up. Yan goes to an inside leg kick, then a kick to the body from Yan followed by a left hand that just misses. O’Malley goes to a two-punch combination. Both fighters are warned by the ref to watch their fingers. O’Malley fires off more quick strikes as Yan continues to pressure forward. A snappy jab from O’Malley lands just before Yan shoots for a takedown. O’Malley keeps it standing and they returned to the center, still exchanging. An overhand left from Yan glances and he stays close, then gets on the legs for a big takedown. O’Malley gets back to his feet relatively quickly. O’Malley continues to let his quick punches fly and Yan responds with a pair of kicks. O’Malley surprises with a takedown attempt, but Yan scrambles before the round ends. Round 2 – Yan opens with a hard kick to the body, sparking an exchange of strikes. O’Malley stings Yan with a hard punch and Yan backs away covering up. O’Malley stalks him and looks to follow up for a finish. Yan covers up well and then lands a huge punch to hurt O’Malley. Yan then takes O’Malley to the ground and starts landing ground and pound. An armbar attempt from O’Malley is avoided by Yan, but in the scramble, they return to the feet in the clinch. A moment later, they separate and return to the center. Yan hits a beautiful trip, but doesn’t follow O’Malley to the ground. O’Malley gets back to his feet and Yan continues to stay in close. Exchanges continue as Yan lands a nice kick to the body. O’Malley begins to circle and work behind his jab, landing a few sharp punches. Yan closes the distance and changes levels for the takedown, getting the fight back to the ground where he maintains position until the horn. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Yan.
Round 3 – O’Malley starts with a kick to the body and takes control of the center early. Yan goes for a jumping switch kick that is blocked. O’Malley defends a takedown attempt and then lands a few jabs. They trade kicks to the legs and the body. Back to doubling up the jab for O’Malley, but Yan charges ahead and looks for another takedown. O’Malley shucks it off and busts open a cut with a strike. The blood is flowing quickly and the crowd gets wild as O’Malley starts to press forward. Heated exchanges now. A big head kick lands on Yan, but he shoots in and completes another takedown. O’Malley grabs a kimura to get back to the feet. Both miss with big punches. Yan lands a nice punch and shoots in for another takedown. O’Malley defends and rolls out of the clinch. Aljamain Sterling vs. T.J. Dillashaw
Round 1 – They dart to the center of the cage and trade kicks to start. A Dillashaw kick is catch by Sterling and uses it to complete a takedown. Sterling begins controlling from the top less than 30 seconds into the fight. An injury may have occurred to the left arm of Dillashaw as he favors it. Sterling postures up and begins raining down hard punches as Dillashaw covers up. The referee steps in closer. Dillashaw turns, Sterling takes the back and looks for the choke. Dillashaw is able to escape and tries to scramble, but Sterling floats and gets right back in on another RNC attempt. Dillashaw shakes it off but Sterling lands punches from the back as he keeps the body triangle tight. Dillashaw tries to power back to his feet, but Sterling drags him back down and lands more punches. Dillashaw powers up again and this time gets away. It’s apparent there is an issue with his left shoulder as he circles away from Sterling. A moment later, Sterling gets another takedown before the round ends. MMA Junkie scores the opening round 10-8 Sterling.
Round 2 – Dillashaw’s shoulder was popped back in between rounds. Sterling looks for a high kick as Dillashaw fires off right hands. He still doesn’t offer anything with the left. Sterling shoots in and completes a takedown. This time Sterling is more patient with his work on the mat, focusing on keeping position. Sterling looks for a D’Arce as Dillashaw tries to get up, but slips away. Dillashaw’s shoulder looks out again and the refs looks closer, but allows the action to continue. Sterling gets the fight back to the ground again. Full mount for Sterling this time and hard punches and elbows begin to rain in. Dillashaw is flattened out on his stomach and the strikes continue as Dillashaw covers up. The referee saw enough and this one is all over.
