UEFA has called an extraordinary meeting to discuss moving the Champions League final to a new location following Russia's decision to invade Ukraine.
The executive committee will meet tomorrow morning to debate the best course of action given the current circumstances and will 'evaluate the situation and take all necessary decisions'.
Condemning the current circumstances created by Russia, a UEFA statement read: "UEFA shares the international community’s significant concern for the security situation developing in Europe and strongly condemns the ongoing Russian military invasion in Ukraine.
"As the governing body of European football, UEFA is working tirelessly to develop and promote football according to common European values such as peace and respect for human rights, in the spirit of the Olympic Charter.
"We remain resolute in our solidarity with the football community in Ukraine and stand ready to extend our hand to the Ukrainian people. We are dealing with this situation with the utmost seriousness and urgency. Decisions will be taken by the UEFA Executive Committee and announced tomorrow."
Saint Petersburg was due to be the host city for the final of Europe's elite competition, though this now appears to be in serious doubt.
There is now a growing expectation that Russia will be stripped of hosting the major tournament final, particularly given UEFA's strong statement.

UEFA has come under significant pressure in recent days to hold emergency talks over what Russia's actions mean for football from various political figures.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is among those to have called for action and suggested that English clubs should refuse to take part in the final, should they reach this stage of the competition.
"I think it is wrong at this stage with what Russia is doing internationally to have the final there," she told the BBC.
Asked if English clubs should boycott this year's showpiece fixture she added: “That's a matter for the team but if I was a player, which is a very unlikely eventuality, I certainly wouldn't want to be part of that.”
Should the location be switched following tomorrow's UEFA meeting, this would be the third year running the venue of the Champions League final has been changed.
The 2020 fixture between Bayern Munich and PSG was originally due to be staged in Istanbul but was held in Lisbon due to travelling complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year's showdown between Chelsea and Manchester City, meanwhile, was scheduled to take place in St Petersburg and pushed back a year as Lisbon instead assumed responsibility.
