Shamrock Rovers have been hit with a whopping fine by UEFA for incidents that occurred towards the end of their 2-1 Champions League home leg win over Ludogorets Razgrad.
The Hoops will have to hand over €21,875 after fans threw plastic bottles in the direction of visiting goalkeeper Sergio Padt.
Amsterdam-born Padt was seen gesturing towards the South Stand in reaction to his side’s injury-time goal, which ended Rovers’ hopes of a remarkable comeback from their 3-0 first-leg defeat.
€16,875 of the fine was for ‘the throwing of objects’, while another €5,000 was added for ‘invasion of the field of play’.
One fan attempted to make his way towards Padt, but was stopped by stewards.
Rovers’ fine was on the upper scale of punishments dished out for that round of fixtures - although it will only make a small dent in their total prizemoney, which currently stands at €3.6m and could grow during their Europa Conference League group stage campaign.
Only Maccabi Haifa (€39,375), Young Boys (€39,500), Olimpija Ljubljana (€30,875) and Slavia Prague (€27,000) were hit with bigger financial sanctions.
Derry City were fined a total of €8,000 for the lighting of fireworks and invasion of the field of play during their game away to FC Riga.
And Motherwell will have to cough up €2,000 after some of their fans lit fireworks during their defeat to Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.
