In a match between two European heavyweights, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid couldn't pull ahead, leaving everything to be decided in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid found themselves ahead thanks to a Vinícius Júnior goal but a Leroy Sané goal leveled things up in the second half. Less than five minutes later, Harry Kane put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot, his eight UCL goal of the season.
The hero of the night was again Vinícius Júnior, who scored his 12th UCL goal in the knockout stages to make sure Real Madrid didn't leave Munich with a loss.
With his brace, Vinícius became the first Latino to score two goals away from home in a Champions League semifinal tie since 2017, when Argentine Gonzalo Higuaín scores two against Monaco.
Real Madrid's number '7' also became the first Brazilian since his teammate Rodrygo in 2021-22 to score multiple goals in a single UCL semifinal game.
Since the start of the 2021-22 season, no other player has contributed to more goals in the Champions League than Vinícius. With today's brace, Vinícius now has 30 goal involvements (18 goals, 12 assists), two more than Kylian Mbappé in second place (per Opta).
In the last 10 UEFA Champions League seasons, only seven players of Latin American descent have scored two or more goals in a single semifinal game: Lionel Messi (twice), Neymar, Higuaín, Roberto Firmino, Rodrygo and now Vinícius Júnior. Higuaín and Vinícius were the only ones to do so on the road.
