Dallas riders can now request an eco-friendly ride in models like a Tesla, Polestar or Ford Mustang Mach-E with Uber’s latest “comfort electric” option.
The comfort electric option allows riders to request an electric vehicle, rather than a gasoline-powered car. Dallas is one of 24 cities across the U.S. where Uber is adding the feature.
Uber piloted the idea in a handful of California cities four months ago.
Pricing for an Uber comfort electric will run between the price point of Uber Comfort and Uber Black. Riders will receive upfront pricing in the app and will know the fare before requesting a trip.
Uber said the announcement is a step toward its goal of becoming a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2030 in the U.S.
Drivers also benefit from the new EV option by earning more per hour with higher fares, gas savings and an extra $1-per-trip incentive for each trip they complete, up to $4,000 a year. In 2022, EV drivers active on the Uber platform avoided using over 5.7 million gallons of gasoline, according to Uber.
Uber also has a partnership with Hertz, which allows more than 25,000 drivers to rent a Tesla.
Comfort electric will be available in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore-Maryland, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Connecticut, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, NYC Suburbs, Philadelphia, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis, Vancouver and Washington D.C.
This summer, Uber debuted a partnership with US Coachways for Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston travelers to rent a charter bus on the app.
