Realising you've left something in the back of a taxi can be very frustrating, especially when it's something like a phone or wallet. The mishap is actually pretty common - so much so, Uber has revealed what items frequently get left behind.
The global transport provider has released its annual list of things forgotten by passengers and it includes some questionable items such as pet hamsters, two fingernails and a fire sword.

The 2023 Uber Lost & Found Index provides a snapshot of items riders’ have reported leaving behind in their driver's car, however it does not specify locations.
Unsurprisingly, the most commonly reported items are things like clothing, phones, bags, wallets and headphones.
After examining trends, Uber noted that April 5, 2022 was the most common day of the year for forgotten items, with nearly 1,000 lost item reports.
They also said some passengers have accidentally forgotten their pets in their Uber which included dogs, turtles, hamsters, and even a rat.
The company also curated a list of 50 of the most unusual and weird things which they say “may surprise you.” Top of the list was a Danny Devito Christmas ornament, while other items named included a lightsaber, a slushy machine, Britney Spears Fantasy perfume, an ankle monitor, fake blood, and “an important pregnancy test.”
A number of “private items” were reported lost including an entire pack of underwear, condoms, and “X-Rated” items such as sex toys.
“As you get going this summer, try to remember your belongings when you exit the backseat. In case you do lose a precious Danny Devito Christmas ornament, a beloved pet Toy Poodle or 6 cheesecakes, Uber is always happy to help return those items,” an Uber spokeswoman said.
If you’ve left something behind in an Uber, the company says the best way to retrieve a lost item is to call the driver. If you have lost your phone in the car, you can login online.
- Tap the menu icon to open the main menu.
- Select “Your Trips” and then the trip on which you lost the item.
- Tap “Find lost item” and then “Contact driver about a lost item.”
- Enter your phone number to call the driver.
- If your driver picks up and confirms that your item has been found, coordinate a mutually convenient time and place to meet for its return to you.
- If your driver doesn’t pick up, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.
