In a move that could redefine how people pay for everyday transactions, the UAE has begun piloting the Middle East’s first biometric payment system, allowing users to make payments using facial recognition or palm scans instead of cards, cash or mobile phones. The initiative, unveiled by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), places the country among a small group of global pioneers experimenting with card-free, password-free payments.
Network International’s CEO, Murat Cagri Suzer stated “Biometric payments represent the next frontier in digital commerce, combining convenience, security and efficiency … as we advance the UAE’s position as a global hub for financial innovation and a digital-first economy.”
