In a stark reminder of how the Iran–US–Israel war is spilling over into the United Arab Emirates, drone debris from an intercepted aerial threat struck the Etihad Towers complex in Abu Dhabi, injuring a woman and her child and causing limited structural damage to the iconic high-rise. Authorities say that the incident occurred as the UAE’s air defence systems successfully intercepted a hostile drone but falling fragments of the wreckage hit the facade of one of the Etihad Towers buildings late on Sunday.
The Etihad Towers, a prominent landmark and mixed-use development in the capital, was not the only civilian site affected in the widening flare-up of regional tensions. Other parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai also saw debris fall from UAE-intercepted drones, injuring residents and causing minor damage to homes and infrastructure. UAE officials emphasised that such collateral hits are a by-product of defence operations aimed at protecting critical population centres as aerial threats loom above the Gulf.
