UAE FM, Lavrov Meet in Moscow, Discuss Ukraine Conflict

UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov exchanged Thursday views on the developments and major challenges facing security and stability in the Middle East and Africa region.

This came during their meeting in the Russian capital, Moscow, where they also discussed bilateral cooperation and means of bolstering their strategic partnership in all fields.

They discussed regional and international developments and issues of common interest, as well as efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Both sides further discussed the stability of the energy and commodity markets, including the global supply of grain.

Sheikh Abdullah underscored the urgent need to reach a peaceful settlement between the warring parties, asserting his country’s readiness to support all efforts aimed at resolving the crisis, including a ceasefire, state news agency WAM reported.

He underlined the importance of maintaining sustainable regional and international peace, security, and stability, pointing to the UAE’s adherence to constructive diplomacy aimed at de-escalation.

He expressed the UAE’s deep concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict on civilians and presented possible mechanisms to alleviate civilian suffering.

The UAE FM stressed the importance of ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and relief in line with international humanitarian law.

He pointed to the United Nations role in this regard, reiterating the UAE’s support for its humanitarian work.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador to Russia, and Abdulnasser al-Shaali, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
