Tyrell Malacia lifts lid on transfer conversation with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

Incoming Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia has revealed that he had a "good conversation" with manager Erik ten Hag and has a "very good connection" with him ahead of completing his move to Old Trafford.

United, who will jet out to Thailand on Friday for the start of their pre-season tour, reached an agreement with Feyenoord to sign the 22-year-old last Tuesday, hijacking his proposed move to Lyon. He arrived in England over the weekend and underwent the second part of his medical at Carrington on Monday.

Should all go to plan, the Netherlands international will be unveiled as United's first signing of the summer and the first addition of the Ten Hag era. The Reds have played a patient game in pursuit of signings this summer but their quick thinking to hijack Lyon's move for the defender looks set to win them this particular battle.

Malacia, although he has never worked with Ten Hag, is no stranger to the former Ajax boss. Ten Hag watched the youngster several times while in charge in Amsterdam and is understood be a long-term fan of his.

Now, Malacia, who helped Feyenoord reach the final of the Europa Conference League last season, is looking forward to playing under Ten Hag. He has set the target of working with him for "many years."

"Mr Ten Hag is a very good coach and also a warm person, so I had a good conversation with him and I have a very good connection with him," Malacia told De Telegraaf. "That's important, because if all goes well we'll be working together for many years.

"I'm looking forward to that, because I think I can learn a lot from him. He has a record for improving players individually, as long as they are prepared to work hard."

On leaving Feyenoord, the club he has spent all of his career with so far, Malacia added: "My team-mates at Feyenoord were very sad because I played together with some for so long and we really built a bond. Everyone wished me the best and I will always keep in touch with a lot of those guys.

"Feyenoord is my club - and it always will be. I am a boy of the club and of the city, so yes Feyenoord is my home and is forever in my heart."
