With Tyreek Hill’s Week 15 status still in question, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel made it clear on Friday the team will take its time when making a decision on the star receiver.
An ankle injury in Week 14 led to three consecutive missed practices for Hill, the NFL’s leader in receiving yards, entering a pivotal home game against the Jets.
Despite being sidelined all week, the MVP candidate earned a questionable designation for the contest, a ruling McDaniel explained will ultimately boil down to one, simple ultimatum for Hill come Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff.
“If he’s confident that he can go be himself, and I have the support of the trainers that are responsible to the risk, then he’ll play.” McDaniel said Friday [h/t ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques]. “If not, then he won’t, and literally every hour, for him, is imperative.”
McDaniel’s remark concerning the wideout’s ability to “be himself” has been a topic of conversation throughout the week after Hill played sparingly following his injury in the first quarter of Miami’s 28-27 loss to the Titans on Monday Night Football.
Hill returned in the second half and finished the game with four catches for 61 yards.
It remains to be seen if Hill, who enters Sunday with 97 receptions for 1,542 yards, will have a chance to add to his march for a record 2,000 yards with the conversation surrounding his health likely to come down to a game-time decision.
